Communicating with your teen can be exhausting and stressful. This v-blog will provide you with 3 communication tips in order to learn to lecture less and provide space for discussion.
Wait! What? Huh?
"I do not want to have a discussion with my kids! I want them to listen and do as I say".
As a mother of 3 myself (infant, elementary school child, high schooler), I get it. I want them to listen, learn and do as I say as quickly as possible. The question that comes to mind is, "do I want my kids to become adult robots? Or do I want them to become, independent-confident thinkers who have learned to problem solve with patience".
Learning how to foster discussion with your kids will allow them to have the space to learn how to communicate. When I say communicate; I mean to learn how to confidently express their feelings, confidently come up with solutions to problems, and learn that their voice, thoughts, and opinions are important and valued.
