Jordan Thatcher

Jordan

Hi,

My name is Jordan Thatcher, and I am a Counseling Master Level Intern working towards my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University Stanislaus. I also have an Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education from Cosumnes River College. I enjoy working with families, children, and adults.

I have over 8 years of experience working with children and families in various settings, from educational to childcare settings. My goal here at Tri-Synergy Counseling is to assist my clients in getting to a place where they feel they want to be. I strive to create a caring, judgment-free zone for my clients to come and feel safe to share anything while receiving encouragement and support. I am passionate about using the modalities I think would work best for my clients as individuals, such as play-based therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

I taught at a play-based preschool where children were encouraged to learn through child-centered and adult-directed play-based activities. I prefer to use child-centered play as much as possible in therapy sessions with young children as it allows for natural self-expression.

Although training with other children has taught me so much, I am also a parent, where I have gained some of my most valuable skills and knowledge. I enjoy spending time with my child. I have attended numerous parenting webinars to help me be the best parent I can be and to learn how to help other parents do the same.

Therapy Modalities Used

Play Therapy Benefits:
Play Therapy is not your average playtime. Play Therapy uses “therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development" (Association for Play Therapy, 2023).

Narrative Therapy:
Narrative Therapy restructures your story so you can view it more positively. This can help how you view past situations or current life events.

Solution-focused Therapy:
Solution-focused Therapy brings out your strengths. This modality can help clients shift their thoughts and language to increase satisfaction with life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy modifies thinking patterns. It can help with thought distortions and also help with behavioral patterns that you may want to change. According to the Mayo Clinic (2023), it is one of the most commonly used modalities to help with mental health challenges and emotional challenges in the U.S. today.
